Dr. appointment from hell!

I just thought I would share with all my family and friends the morning I had. It started out like any other morning, kids getting ready for school, Charley screaming for cereal, and Ellie asking if she was going to school today. I got Michael off to work and the kids off to school and started my normal routine of making beds. Ellie and Charley were playing together in their room while I got dressed for the gym. Off to the gym we went and then after that off to the doctor for Ellie's pre-school physical. We haven't been to the doctor in awhile so Ellie was really nervous. When we got there both girls were fine sitting patiently in the chairs waiting for the doctor to come. After the nurse checked Ellie's eyes, ears, and weight she told us Ellie needed to pee in a cup. Your would have thought it was the end of the world. Ellie was crying saying she didn't want them to see her pee. Then Charley was spinning the chair that the doctor sits on and when the doctor came in and sat down Charley lost it. When I say lost it I mean LOST it. She started screaming at the top of her lungs, throwing herself on the floor and kicking off her shoes. I was so embarrassed I didn't know what to do. If I picked her up she would kick and scream out of my hands, so while the doctor was trying to talk to me about Ellie I just let her scream on the floor. I wanted to die. Ellie then was behind on her shots so she had to have one shot today and another in a few months. So two nurses had to come in and help me while Charley screamed on the floor and Ellie screamed in the chair. Everyone was trying to help by giving suckers to Charley and little toys but nothing would work. She continued to scream for the whole appointment and then out to the car. I am sure that everyone in there thought I was the worst mother ever because of the way she was acting and the fact that I just let her scream on the floor. Maybe I am I don't know but I just didn't know what to do to get her to stop. When I got in the car I just started crying and had to call Michael to calm me down. Later I talked to my mom and she said I use to do that. I don't know how she didn't kill me. I guess this is pay back. I hope that no one ever has to experience what I had to today, and I hope that it never happens again.

Jaime I have seriously been there too. I had a very similar experience taking Joselyn to her Kindergarten check-up with Lilly and Maddy. It was the most embarrassing thing! I HATE having to take more than one to the doctor. But who ever gets to take just one? Whenever I see anyone else going through the same thing I only feel sorry for the mom who is having to deal with it. But when it is you going through it I swear it feels like everyone is staring at you thinking you are a terrible mom!

Jaime- that is the exactly what happened to me with Canon - the peeing in a cup. He wouldn't do it - even in front of me. My 7 year old. We ended up sitting there for 30 minutes until he finally gave in. I am so sorry about your bad day!

When I took Tyler for his Kindergarten physical he refused to pee in the cup. I asked if I could just take it home and bring it in later. They said that would be fine. His appointment was at 9:30 and he did not pee until after 5, when he came and said he was ready. OF course we had to wait til morning to go in cup as the dr.'s office was closed.

I so know your pain... when my kids act like that, I start to sweat. I have to drop whatever I am doing, and leave. I have no coping skills when it comes to that kind of mom stress.
